The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA)

Thank you for your inquiry about the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment (CAPA) by A. Angold, A. Cox, M Prendergast, M. Rutter, and E. Simonoff.

Description: The CAPA was first developed in 1986 and is a Parent and Child interviewer-based structured diagnostic interview for use with children aged 9 to17. The CAPA offers modules for the diagnosis of the full range of common psychiatric disorders.

We have developed a DSM 5 version of the CAPA, and it is currently available for use.

Certain modules of the CAPA have been translated into the following languages: Canadian French; German (Parent Only); and Norwegian.

eMeasures: We have created a web application for the administration of an electronic version of the CAPA. The eMeasures system is a tool for administering the CAPA online or offline.  The eMeasures system allows near “real-time” modifications of the CAPA. Researchers can select what modules they would like to administer as long as the “required” accompanying modules used in diagnosis are administered. The eMeasures is capable of generating a Word document that is an exact replica of its contents.

The CAPA Core Modules versions contain only the diagnostic variables necessary for the diagnosis of the following disorders: Anxiety Disorders (GAD, SAD, Social Anxiety, Specific Phobia, Agoraphobia, and Panic Disorder); Depression; ADHD; ODD/Conduct; and Incapacity/Impairment.

The CAPA has been updated with DSM 5 criteria.
